Major Airlines Announce Expanded Flights to Burgas & Varna for 2027
Getting to Eurovision 2027 just got a whole lot easier. Following the announcement that Burgas will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest, major European airlines are aggressively expanding their 2027 flight schedules for the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
New Routes and Massive Capacity
Fraport Twin Star, the operator of both Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) airports, has confirmed that the existing infrastructure can easily handle up to 50,000 passengers per day, meaning no structural expansions are needed. Instead, the focus is entirely on bringing more planes to the tarmac.
According to recent aviation reports and TravelRadar, Several major expansions are already locked in for the Spring/Summer 2027 season:
- Condor: The German leisure airline is adding approximately 15,500 extra seats to Burgas, with direct flights from Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Leipzig.
- Corendon Airlines: Has confirmed new connections bridging Cologne, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart directly to Burgas and Varna.
- SunExpress & Electra Airways: A strategic partnership will see up to seven aircraft based on the Bulgarian coast by 2027, vastly increasing connectivity with major German and Central European hubs.
- TUI: Has confirmed it will maintain and potentially expand its high-capacity routes from Belgium.
Varna as a Backup Hub
While Burgas Airport is just a 15-minute drive from Arena Burgas, fans are heavily encouraged to also look at flights into Varna Airport (VAR).
Varna is located just 115 km north of Burgas (about a 2-hour drive or bus ride). With airlines equally expanding their Varna operations, flying into Varna and taking a scenic coastal transfer down to Burgas might be the smartest (and cheapest) way to travel for Eurovision week.
Stay tuned as budget carriers like Ryanair and Wizz Air are expected to announce their specialized Eurovision flight schedules later this autumn!
