How to Avoid Accommodation Scams for Eurovision 2027
As soon as Burgas was announced as the host city for Eurovision 2027, the demand for accommodation skyrocketed. Unfortunately, this also means an increase in accommodation scams.
Here is our local guide on how to protect yourself:
1. Only Use Verified Platforms
Always book through official, verified platforms like Booking.com, Airbnb, or directly with well-known international hotel chains. Do not send wire transfers to unknown landlords claiming to have an “apartment right next to the Arena.”
2. Check the Registration (Categorization)
In Bulgaria, every legal rental property (even Airbnbs) must have a municipal categorization certificate. Legit hosts will often display their categorization star rating or registration number on their listing.
3. Beware of Fake Addresses
Some scammers list properties in “Lazur” or “Zornitsa” to attract fans, but the actual address provided after payment is far out in the suburbs. Use Google Maps Street View to verify the building exists before booking non-refundable rates.
4. Read Recent Reviews
Only book properties that have a solid history of reviews from the past year. If a property was created yesterday and has no reviews, be very careful.
