Getting around Burgas is about to become much easier for international visitors. The Municipality of Burgas has confirmed that the city’s public transport network will soon be fully integrated into Google Maps, a crucial upgrade ahead of the massive tourist influx expected for the Eurovision 2027 Song Contest.

Real-Time Tracking for Fans

Responding to an inquiry by local municipal councilors regarding readiness for Eurovision 2027, Deputy Mayor Stanimir Apostolov revealed that the municipal transit operator, Burgasbus, has successfully deployed the international GTFS (General Transit Feed Specification) standard.

This means that within a few weeks, once Google’s verification process is complete, anyone using the Google Maps app will have access to:

  • Comprehensive Route Planning: Seamlessly find the best bus lines connecting the airport, city center, and Arena Burgas.
  • Real-Time Arrivals: See exactly how many minutes away your bus is, directly on your phone.
  • Stop Information: Locate the nearest bus stops and check their full schedules.

Cost-Free Innovation

Interestingly, the municipality noted that this highly requested integration requires zero additional funding. Burgasbus already possessed the necessary digital infrastructure to open its real-time data to Google Transit. The city is currently prioritizing any technical adjustments requested by Google to ensure the system is flawlessly up and running well before Eurovision fans begin arriving.

For international fans who traditionally rely on apps like Google Maps to navigate foreign host cities, this integration removes a major hurdle and ensures a smoother, more accessible Eurovision experience in Bulgaria’s coastal gem.
